Should People Who Download Music Illegally Be Punished?

1. Study: Kids Download Illegal Music Because They Can

As media industry becomes more and more digitalized, downloading music illegally are reaching a serious level. It is called “Songlifting”. The compound word “Songlifting” is formed from the words “Song” and “Shoplifting”. [1] This is a problem related to intellectual property. Was it so wrong for people who violate intellectual property to punish? In my opinion, people who download or copy music illegally should be strictly punished because it is to protect the right of the producer and consumer. First of all, paying for the MP3 files we download is way to ensure the divine right of producer and to punish these people is the only way to protect their right. There is no difference between MP3 files and products, but people don't realize that songlifting is serious offence because of the convenience of internet. According to Statistics Korea, which researches about every area of society in Korea, 74 percentage of people who randomly selected sample of 1000 people aged between 18 and 50 don't feel guilty for downloading music illegally. [2] Also, Yougyun Ham, a professor at the School of Digital Media Contents for the University of Konkuk, Korea, said, “There has been either no proper punishment or minuscule punishment on the issue.” [3] Producers are having a hard time in music download market. According to the analysis about music market development, which was reported by Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) in 2014, revenue from music download is two times less than 2008. [4] Some people who download or copy music illegally think MP3 files are too expensive and rationalize stealing of digital contents. However, pricing MP3 files for protecting their rights is essentially right. Of course, people can purpose to adapt to suit price, but that doesn’t mean it is free. Second, if punishment couldn’t implement properly, people who paid MP3 files might be damaged. If they see someone who download illegally, they would feel unfair and be more likely to violate the right of producer. According to Statistics Korea, the rate of experience in downloading MP3 files online in 2014 fell 21.8 percent and became 50.1 percent. [5] Some people say, songlifting is unstoppable stream. However, unless they propose alternative way to use music files with guarding the right of producer and consumer, their claims are harder to accept. For these two reasons, in order to protect producers and consumers, it is important to enhance punishment of downloading music illegally and to set clear criterion for violation. I think relevant authority should shut down illegal music file-sharing site and develop how to encrypt music files not to copy. Of course, besides these punishments, it will be helpful to conduct a campaign or to educate students to be acknowledged the seriousness of illegal downloads.

Should people who download music illegally be punished?

Opinion
As media industry becomes more and more digitalized, most portal sites offer a variety of content. Especially, illegal downloading music are reaching a serious level. This is a problem related to intellectual property. Was it so wrong for people who violate intellectual property to punish? In my opinion, people who download or copy music illegally should be punished. These acts are called “Songlifting”. I give the following reasons to back my opinion.

Reasons
(1) 음원유료다운로드 is way to ensure the divine right of producer, and to punish these people is the only way to protect their right.

(2)

Examples

(2)

Restate Opinion

Production and Ownership of Knowledge

Q) Has your own experience from the blog writing changed your understanding of knowledge production and/or knowledge ownership? Please briefly explain.

A) Through this semester, I had many opportunities to write paragraph. I realized that I'm not good at English writing. When I wrote paragraph, sometimes I would rely on other people's thought, books, websites and so on. Also, I was confused whether my thought is really own my thing or not. For example, when I wrote paragraph about the minimum wage, I surely wrote "The minimum wage in Korea is 5,580 Won." without source of this info. After Mid-term Exam, I noticed that it is necessary to post the source of information in my paragraph. All the same, I wonder how far I can write paragraph without 'Work-Cited'.

2) What have the comments I have posted on other blog taught me about writing?
I think others are good at writing. They sometimes make a little mistakes, but when they write a paragraph, it seems like they really know their subject. It makes me always want to be more good at writing.

Final Draft Mid-Term Exam Paragraph

Why is Raising the Minimum Wage Inconducive to Workers?

Raising the minimum wage has a negative influence on workers for two reasons. In my opinion, increased wages are not always positive. First of all, if the minimum wage is raising, there is a high probability of downsizing. Because the company takes more costs, the demand of labor is lower. For example, an increase in the value of the hourly real minimum wage from $5 to $6 leads to a decrease in employment from 32,000 hours to 24,000 hours [Graph A - (a)] and an increase in unemployment [Graph A - (b)]. It will affect workers directly, and they will take more work burden and stress. Second, the existing workers are worry about unstable employment, so they will frequently underpaid for doing the same work. For example, this year, the minimum wage in Korea is 5,580 Won. Like [Graph B], it is on a rising trend. According to news reports [1], despite of raising wage, some of apartment security guards in Bucheon had been working in much worse conditions. They had been paid in last minimum wage, and they had been worked in less rest time. Sungsik An, Nowon Labor Welfare Center, stated, “It is more important that improving awareness of workers than just raising the minimum wage. [2] For these two reasons, it is necessary to recognize that raising the minimum wage can’t be the solution for workers.

My Tidy Room to Study

I've thought that how organized my room presents a good result of studying. On the desk where I sit, there is nothing unnecessary. There are a book, several pens (red, blue, black), scrap papers, and a stop watch. These are arranged in a straight line in front of me. On the left side, there is book shelf. All of my books are classified in sorts.(Novels, classbooks, dictionaries, etc.) It helps to find a book easily, and it seems comfortable. On the around my room, there is white-green point wallpaper. Especially, green color helps my eyes to rest. Finally, at the far end of my room, there is a big rectangular window. It is simple plaid patterns. Before I start to study, I always open the window. Because of doing this, the air of room is always clean and fresh. It helps me to concentrate on studying. To sum up, tidying up room, color, and fresh air make me concentrate on studying.
